  • Monitor, adjust and control all phases of boiler plant operations in accordance with established procedures.
  • Distribute and control electrical energy through a primary electrical distribution system.
  • Perform preventive maintenance work on the plant equipment to make sure systems are operational
  • Monitor water pressure, condensers, pump pressure, hot well levels and systems to ensure temperature and pressures are maintained.
  • Monitor large changes in electric loads, abrupt changes in weather condition or schedule changes in operation
  • Maintain equipment and recording instruments to monitor temperature, pressure and flow.
  • Monitor all auxiliary equipment which supports the Boiler Room & Engine Room to ensure all equipment is functional.
  • Monitor eight steam pressures by reducing values either in manual or automatic mode.
  • Monitor the equipment and piping in the power plant and some outside areas to ensure systems are running properly.
  • Maintain the gas turbine generator and the waste heat recovery boiler by starting and stopping the equipment to ensure systems are operational.
  • Determine the treatment and chemicals to be used to control chemical concentrations, remove impurities and entrapped gases, or stabilize fluctuating water conditions in the boiler.
  • Maintain the fuel oil pumps which regulate the flow of the fuel supplied to boilers by adjusting valves to maintain constant flow.
  • Maintain and operate low-pressure compressed air distribution systems to ensure systems are running properly.
  • Operate nuclear grade pure water production, storage and distribution systems by making frequent checks on the quality of the product.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications and service manuals.
  • Follow written and standard instructions received from the supervisor or relayed by the previous shift operators.
  • Maintain hourly log of all boiler plant operations, noting unusual situations.
  • Complete all work assignments in accordance with required specifications.
  • Receive and process emergency/urgent trouble calls to be monitored on a daily basis.
  • Determine source of trouble when visual inspection or other instruments indicate equipment malfunction.
  • Analyze and identify equipment malfunctions and take immediate corrective actions to meet quality control needs.
  • Operate emergency trouble call desk on weekends, holidays and normal workdays when staff is unavailable.
  • Monitor temperatures and PH levels are kept within the State of Connecticut DEP established tolerances
  • Provide guidance for operations and maintenance personnel regarding ASME & EPA compliance with the Clean Air Act of 1990 & the Air Operating Permit.
  • Inspect and test controls, safety and alarm equipment to ensure proper functioning to meet quality control needs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and make essential repairs on plant equipment to meet needs of the base.
